A Montana ranching family faces trespassers on their land… Forry J. John Dutton (Kevin Costner) often seems to “forget” his Montana accent and revert to the SoCal voice he usually uses..
Costner is a masterful actor as Dutton’s lead
Featured on WatchMojo: Top 10 Summer TV Shows Off Your Radar (2018). (The review is for the first two seasons only) I went into this series not expecting to like it, but the plot, acting and camera are top notch. It’s basically Montana mob wars with the occasional massive dose of testosterone (cowboys with guns on horses while fishing)!
The show drops at the beginning of the second season, but picks up again in the middle
The show is at its best when it shows that the chessboard is moving the Duttons and that their enemies are on it. Kelsey Asbill is the weakest link in the role of Monica and plays a bad hand badly, the plot is clumsily scattered and the acting just misses the mark. I think Cole Hauser as Rip might be the strongest act (besides Costner himself) and I was looking forward to all the scenes Rip was in.
Thomas Rainwater is also excellent
The plot is buzzing and the landscape is beautiful. Just as Cormac McCarthy’s All the Pretty Horses was a little more raw and brutal than the title suggests, this series works in a similar way. I highly recommend it and wish I hadn’t waited so long to watch it.
