The director of the two previous films, Paul King, has decided not to direct this installment
Line of Events
Paddington returns to Peru to visit his beloved Aunt Lucy, who now resides at the Home for Retired Bears. With the Brown family in tow, a thrilling adventure ensues when a mystery plunges them into an unexpected journey. However, he pitched the idea for this third film and was involved as an executive producer.
The Paddington we never needed
Featured in Graham Norton i gosti: Billy Crystal/Emily Mortimer/Hugh Bonneville/Pharrell Williams/Michael Kiwanuka (2024). My son was 7 when Paddington 2 came out and it’s one of my all time favorite films so waiting 7 years for the 3rd installation brought with it a hope that Paddington in Peru could be as good as the first 2 films. It’s not.
The children now young adults reduced to very little dialogue
The jokes we got from the staple characters like Mrs Bird virtually nonexistent. Sally Hawkins brought such a charming quirkiness to the Mary Brown character that whatever the franchise says- she really was irreplaceable. It would have served the series legacy better to simply have had Mary Brown absent from this adventure, or give up.
Banderas character and Gina do not work either though dont believe that’s down to either of the actors
The genius slapstick of the second film is largely gone or its re-creation is repeated but just not as well. I might be alone in this opinion but I actually wanted to see a little of Paddington’s relationship with his Aunt Lucy and this is not delivered either. I was relieved to see in the credits "and Phoenix Buchanan as Phoenix Buchanan." Bring back Sally Hawkins for Paddington 4 too, and then end the series.
